Globe Artichokes - How to Eat

Eating Globe Artichokes is very much a family event, children love the palava involved in peeling, sucking, nibbling and then reaching the delicious heart.
Best served with plenty of napkins!!
1. Best served hot, warm or at room temperature.
2. Pull a leaf off and dip into your dressing [melted butter, vinagrette or a tart hollandaise].
3. Suck and nibble the artichoke flesh and then discard the leaf.
4. Continue like this till you reach the cone of soft baby leaves in the middle.
5. Grasp the cone in one hand, the base in the other and twist off.
6. Scrape away any hairs caught on the inside of the cone and nibble off the rim of flesh - before discarding.
7. Scrape and tug the choke off the artichoke heart, spoon over lots of dressing and then eat the heart. |
