29/04/2008 No more yoghurts
We are sorry to say that from the end of May we will no longer be able to supply the Yeo Valley range of yoghurts.
We simply cannot buy them at a reasonable enough price to allow us to sell them to you and make a profit. In most cases the price we pay is often more than the supermarket shelf price.
This leads into the great supermarket debate as usual.
Is it fair for the supermarket to demand extremely low prices from producers, when they have built up there businesses on selling through the big 4 gradually squeezing the margins until the producer is in a position that they cannot afford to stop trading or find another market? or is it market forces of the price conscious consumer that drives the price down.
We are looking for a small independant organic yoghurt producer to supply us and hope to add some new products at a good price before the yoghurts are removed on May 31st.
