18/02/2008 Sunny Futures

What a change we have had in the weather. Although it has been exceptionally cold we have had lots of clear days with the sun making a welcome reappeance.

It''s great to be working in the lighter nights too, adding a few well needed extra hours into the working day at the farm.

The ground is far too cold to be planting at the moment but we are hoping to get the polytunnel up this month which will give us somewhere to start sowing our plugs for transplanting to the field in late March or April.

The pigs are having fun as usual, they have started jumping over the fences so they can all sleep together in a nice warm heap!

With the improved light the hens are laying more eggs and are started to lounge in the sunshine with wings and legs spread out on the grass, but with the good times also come bad ones.

We have been visited by Mr. Fox lately and he has taken some of our chickens which is really upsetting after we have spent twelve weeks rearing them through horrendous weather. It is the worst time for fox attacks as they are trying to feed the young cubs born between now and March with little food available.

Steve and Kate are now up and delivering around the coast and Newcastle and are bringing more customers on to the scheme, we hope you can attend the open days so we get chance to meet you.

We are busy adding events and new products to the site and would like your help too, what products would you like us to have available? What would you like to see on the farm or do you know of an event that we should be going too? As always its your scheme so please let us know what you would like.

Regards,

Lee and Beth
